Question Realty, Autos, Classifieds and payment methods

Hi.

I have a clinet who wants a site which sells Real Estate, Autos and general classified add for both individuals as well as business such as Realty and Auto dealers.

They want to be notified for when each add is placed, sold or runs out but want the site to be as automatic as possible without too much manual intervention except for accepting payments.

The payment method they want is to offer an option of..
Instant PayPal,
Manual Credit Card,
Cheque and Money Order
as well as notification of Direct Deposits to their bank.

They want..
1. the general public to pay a one off fee when they place the add.
2. Real estate agents and businesses who will have multi listings will be given
a monthly rate that they will be billed for, for example, they pay $100 a
month and get 10 adds for that month.

Can this all be done in the new standard V4 version without much/any php experience?

Thanks,

Rock

Everything you listed above (except the 'sold' and 'runs out' ) comes in the standard 68C package - you do not need to do any scripting - it's already done.

Re: sold and run outs, the site owner receives an email when a listing has been added/modified.
The client can delete their own listings when they are sold - some prefer to have listings stay around for a while after they are sold.

Concerning listing payments, these can be automatically received and processed without your intervention via PayPal or your chosen online provider. Customers do not need to have a PayPal account to pay via Credit Card using PayPal. Likewise, there is a 'check/money order' option (if you wish to invoice your customers).

Customers can also purchase 'memberships' which you can set up to include any number of listings in your chosen categories over any period of time. eg: 10 auto ads /mth = $xx.xx

Question

Thanks Chaslie.

I am in Sydney and noticed your in Vic.

I see the online demo V4 (my preference), is different from the V3 and assume that is one of the template which comes standard? I have looked at the other templates for sale as well.

http://demo.68classifieds.com/index.php

http://www.68classifieds.com/example/

I am a little confused due to the fact he wishes to operate 3 types of listings, Homes, Autos and General. Would the go be to take one 68Classifieds script and through Category types, break it into the three areas? In a similar way to this?

http://www.68classifieds.com/example/category.php

Then because they are different sales areas (Homes,Auto,General), they have different fields describing the item and I am not sure how that would work here.

Would I be asking too much to give me some idea how this could work with the one instance of 68?

Thanks for your time.

This is how I would approach it:
1. Have the one domain (www.68c.com.au) that is setup for 'general' then set up another 2 different sites for 'auto' and 'homes' (eg: www.68c.com.au/autos, www.68c.com.au/homes). The one script can be used 3 (or more) times because they are all within the same domain. Each script would have its own database, look and feel, etc.

2. Alternatively, set up one site with 3 main categories of general, home and auto. Each of those categories then have their our unique set of sub categories, sub-sub categories, etc, etc).

When you set up 'extra fields', you choose which set of cats, sub-cats, sub-sub cats, etc that that extra field will be used for.

EDIT: Links to live site now removed

Thanks again Chaslie,

I have taken a copy of the post, so you can delete the links if you'd like to.

I have tried to make some changes in the demo, however as it is taking me some time to find my way around, and at times have to leave it to do something else, the database resets and I have to start again.

It is very frustrating and is counter productive when someone is really trying hard to understand the program and be sure it can do what they want it to, before buying it. I have registered 3 times and set up new adds and memberships etc only to have them disappeared on me just as I go to see what I actually have done. Is there any way they can extend this one hour reset to 4 or 5 hours which is what one could need to try things out.

I received new registration and new listing emails but once again time beats me and they are gone.

One of the things I need to find out is just how admin deals with an email payment for a money order and cheque. I got the new listing email with the amount and links but would like more info about who they were and what tupe of payment it was. Can this be done.

Whilst I am not a php coder, I work with oscommere a lot and we can make small changes in the php files for text content in emails etc., and can add modifications which I pay to get done, or use user donated contributions. Can this also be done in 68? I note that they mention Designer Version is encrypted, does that mean one does not have access to the config files to make general changes?

Sorry to ask so much of you, however I am deadly serious about 68 and I have to make sure it does what my client wants otherwise I am stuck with a program I have no use for, if I later find out out I am restricted to make changes he wants.

Lastly, in oscommerce one can pay by credit card and the 8 middle number are sent by email to store admin whilst the two outside 4 numbers are left on site in admin. One has to go to the customer account to get those numbers.

How does one pay by credit card in 68? I can't seem to have enough time to find it.

My client tells me his main payment methods will be..

1. paypal ipn, for instant listings,
2. credit card NOT via paypal (manual deposits) for admin activated listings with cc auth
3. manual Direct Deposit for admin activated listings when confirm it is in bank
4. money order. cheque for admin activated listings when cleared.

I am looking at a few programs, but it looks like this is the one I will end up with, but just need to be sure it does what my client wants.

Thanks again for your time and help.

Rock

BTW I notice some on the forum are asking for the V4 demo. What version of the demo do I have access to now?

You may wish to ask you client further about why he does not wish to use PayPal for processing CC payments.

PayPal have made a significant change to their payment processing systems. If the user making the purchase aready has a PayPal account, a cookie previous lodged on the users computer will pick up they are a PayPal member and will suggest they log in and use their Credit Card already lodged with PayPal. They also have the option of not logging in and using as CC of their choice then providing those details.

Alternatively, if the user does not have a PayPal account, because no cookie was previously lodged, the PayPal screen will default to a form whereby they fill in their CC details. There is also an option to register with PayPal if the 'choose'.
It's a good facility, secure and cheap.

The other option is to ask one of the 68C independant developers to modify the checkout section to include CC payment option and Direct Debit option. This could be done by copying the 'cheque/Invoice' option then deleoping the two next options from the original code.
