Default Accepting Dealer Feeds - 02-28-2007, 07:08 PM

Does anyone know how to configure the software to accept a Dealer's feed? I have been contacting car dealers to upload their used car inventory and they are asking if they can submit a feed so it is easier to manage. I am assuming I would need to get a hold of their feed to see what it is sending.

Any help on this would be appreciated, I also think it would help others make a lot more money if they do the same.

I think I covered this in another thread, let me know if I missed something.

Well the post you had me PM you about was for an feed from our site to Oodle. This post was to be able to accept feeds from others that would populate my site.

When speaking with a Car Dealer today, the problem he had with adding his cars to my site was that he had to manually make sure all of his listings were current, which means he would have to modify/delete them off his site, and do it again on our site. He also mentioned that when he uses the Big Guys' sites like AutoTrader.com that they accept a feed from his site, so when he deletes a listing on his site it happens on their site too. I know this is involved, but I was hoping I was not the only one to wonder about this.

His site probably has an XML feed, but that's not definite. He really needs to tell you what format the feed is in before you know how to try to deal with it.

So would it help to get the feed from him and post it here? I see that a lot of the Dealers here in Las Vegas use the same service http://www.autobase.com/

Yes, find out what the feed is. I'm sure it will take some code to do it, but how much we don't know yet.

Problem#2: Are you sure that AutoBase has no restrictions about repurposing or resyndicating their content beyond the dealer's website?

I don't think they have a problem as it seems this is the norm for dealers here. Also one dealer had someone call me to make arrangements to get their feed, so I will have to verify that
