Default Link to a certain category on search.php - 01-29-2007, 07:59 AM

Hello,

I would like to link from a page directly to a certain category of the category list on the search.php page, so that already this certain category appears, with the extra fields, and not the search.html page, where one has to look for a certain category again - in the category list.
Does anyone know how this can be made?
How do the links have to be? Something like: ..domain/search.html... and what else? - to get directly to the category.

Thank you for your help.
Best regards
Herbert

To link to a category it should look like this:

http://yoursite.com/category.php?type=X

Change the X to the category number. The easiest way to find your category number is to simply browse a category and look at the number listed after type= in your address bar.

Hope this answers your question.

Thank you for your help, but I don't want to link to a category, I want to link to a certain category in the category list on search.html to have this category come up with the extra fields in the search function, without having to go to search.html fist, check the category list and click on the link in it.

Thank you very much
Herbert

You just have to add the search query to the link:

yoursite.com/searchresults.php?searchtext=&type=&city=&state=&c ountry=&minprice=&maxprice=&zipCode=&miles=&Submit =Search

Then just fill in the details you wish to be displayed

type=categoryid
searchtext=some text value
city=cityname
etc=etc

Is this what you are looking for?

Thank you, but I think I have to try to explain.
If one click on "search", the search feature shows a category list, where you can choose a category to search - not browse.
If you have searchable extra fields in this category, you can search for them now.
So, I would like to link from the normal category page, when you browse, to the category in the category list of the search feature, where one finds the extra fields to search.
So, for example, if someone browses the normal car category, he finds all the listed cars there. If he searches using the search feature instead of browsing the categories, he, for example can search for a special make of a car, using the extra fields displayed in the search feature.
Now, if somebody browses through the categories but want to narrow the listings, he has to go from browsing the category to the search feature. There he has to look for the same category in the category list, click on it, and then he can narrow the adds searching the extra fields.
I would like to link from the normal category page, when you browse, directly to the same category in the category list of the search feature, where the extra fields can be found.
I hope I expressed myself clearer know.

Thank you
Herbert

I understand now, however, I can't think of an easy way to achieve this.

Thank you for your reply.

Is there any way to link from a page to the searchable extra fields of a certain category?

Best regards
Herbert
