Default Classifieds Business Startup

Does anyone have any advice from a legal standpoint on launching your classified's Web site and what you need to do as far as registering your website as a business in your state, IRS forms to fill out for tax purposes, etc.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Mike

Just the standard business stuff. May be a good idea to get a lawyer to write the terms and conditions for use of your site. sba.gov hasall the info you should need to get started.

Thumbs up

As larry said above SBA has all the info you should need...

http://www.sba.gov/smallbusinessplanner/index.html

One thing I would highly recommend is business insurance. In ohio I got 1 Million Dollars of insurance for my classified business for about $250/yr.

Rather be safe than sorry. Seeing how everyone and there brother is filing lawsuits these days.

Good luck with your site...

-Josh

I am interested what would be the legal (teritory-state) base for the requirements if I am in Poland, the site is registrated in Poland (could be other country), but the data base is in US, and the invoice addres could be in other country?

In Poland there are very strict requirements concerning collecting personal data.

Once upon a time I got advice from one insurance broker. He said that instead of paying for insurance every year just register your company as a corporation with limited liability. Nobody can take from you more than your corporation have. If you are going to lose any lawsuit they can only have your computer and desk. So if your business is small maybe it is a way to do. However I am not a lawyer so I have no idea if it is really true.

That is certainly the position in Australia. A company entity is designed to provide limited liability. Unless it is a 'criminal' matter (fraud, etc) whereby the Director of the company could face jail.

But, coming back to my (polish) and parhaps EU reality to establish a limited l. company one would need something about $20.000
and of course an owner of the ltd. company is protected - if he is not involved in runing the business - if yes, the manager is responsible with all his private posession especially for the taxes and in case of not announcing bankruptacy at the right time.
For a small family business in Poland it is too expensive to registrate an Ltd. and employ a director.

An interesting matter is an insurance...but usually it is great when one buys, but in case of any trouble... ( I mean again my country & EU)

excuse my English
