Maffo NEWS Mod
3 Attachment(s)
Many apologies to the guys who installed this on the old 3.0 version and havent been able to run it on the new 3.1 version.
I have pretty much re-written the News Mod for this new version and changed the Readme. I would suggest that if you tried to install the 3.0 version on the 3.1 system that you remove all instances of the old one before adding the new one. I have attached some screenshots for those who want to see what the NEWS mod is all about. Please, all I ask if you download this Mod, can you leave some feedback, how it works, any problems etc Maffo:D |
Hello Maffo,
I opened the zip and followed your instructions to the letter... It seemed easier to install than for the 3.0xx version. Took me a total of 10 minutes (five minutes if I had to do it again) and the end results are a great improvement...as befitting 3.1. It looked a bit odd at first...before I added some news, but by the time I'd placed some test material the light dawned and the penny dropped. Conclusion:- Works perfect and I am a happy bunny. Thanks Maffo, for all the effort. I've put you at the top of my Christmas card list. |
Hey Maffo,
I have already e-mail you about this offline, but you were still looking for the code... Any luck and does it work with the new version of 68? Do you have a version that has all the bug fixes and updated install instructions? Would love to add this to my site... I don't expect it for free either... |
Hi there BGordon,
Good news is that I have found the news mod and am just going through it to check its compatibility with the latest version. It will then be available for download. Note to Don ------------ Dont forget my christmas card!! |
Fantastic...
Can't wait to play with it :) NB: I am a lowly designer not dev |
Thats fine,
The only thing you wont be able to do with the designer version, is to have the headlines on your homepage. The newspage itself however works independently.:D |

Just out of curiosity, why would they not work on any page (like hom.tpl.php)? Can't you just do an include and place it where you want (like the rss mod)? |
Yes, it has been changed to ad the ability to place it on any page and works with all versions at least from 3.1.3 & up.

Error With News Mod
I installed the news mod, put in my licence key and chmod the whole maffo_news mod directory to 777.
I initialize it and activate it and see the admin link. When I click the admin link, the module de-activates itself and goes back to inactive? When I repeat and activate it the news component shows up on my site (so it seems to be working) but I have no way to add to news without the admin link working. Any idea? Also, what changes do I need to make to the .htaccess and SEO scripts so that the links for the news get modded to SEO format? Thanks :) |
