How to charge sales tax?

Hi folks, just bought the 3.1.4 Developer.

We are hooked up to Paypal for payment, but wondering how we charge for taxes on the fee we set for each listing option. Do we do that on our end (where do I set this), or do we instruct Paypal to tax additional 6% of whatever amount we pass to them for payment processing?

I had this issue a long time ago and wrote a small mod for it, however that was with the older version. Im not too sure the program has this built in. You may have to edit the usercheckout section.

Many US states don't require charging tax for advertising. Not too sure if you are in the US, but you should check with the taxing authority to see if you actually need to charge sales tax.

Applying tax is not a current feature of the 68 Classifieds script. I know a few people with Canadian sites had requested to charge tax, but don't know what they did to do so.

For now you'd have to make some custom modification to the script (which would require the developer version) or setup tax through paypal.

Not to sure Juven but I think he is talking about the transaction charge.

Hi yes, we are in Canada so would need to charge the tax.

The paypal tax function doesn't appear to apply the 68classifieds (only works with paypal buy now buttons, etc.), so the tax calculation will have to be from the classifieds end.

Is it hard to apply tax (we do have the developer version). Basically I just need to apply a 6% tax to the total purchase before the entire value is passed onto paypal for payment.

The display should be:

subtotal: $10
GST: 0.60
------------
Total $10.60 <-- this is the amount that gets passed to paypal.

It wouldn't be too hard, a module could probably be made for sales tax. You could also just modify the files, you would have to edit the normal checkout process and the membership purchase process as well as renewal.

I dont know the way you set up your 68C and how many packages you have, but if you have just a few you may put: Total $10.60 (GST included)

By the way where you in Canada?:)

Just set the sales tax in your PayPal preferences and PayPal will take care of it. It will show the breakdown and total at checkout.

I have had only one instate sale, but it did work. The payment should be passed to paypal using the same format as a "buy now" button. The first screen shows sales tax as 0 untill they fill out the payment form with state and country info, etc OR log into their PayPal account. The next screeen (confirmation screen) then shows the amount with the tax added.

If this has changed, someone please let me know.

Can you explain to me how this is done? Do I edit the paypal.php file in 68classifieds? Or should I be looking elsewhere?

I've already set tax on our Paypal account, but I need a way to pass the variables to Paypal when 68classifieds connects to it.
