Users Awaiting Email Confirmation...

I have noticed since I enabled email verification, my members are having a hard time signing up. I've gotten a lot of support emails and have had potential members abandon the process. I have thought of a few ways to help deal with all of the users awaiting email confirmation. I have some questions, if anyone has done this kind of mod your help is appreciated!!!

1. When the new user goes to login on the site, it displays a message if they have not confirmed their email yet. It also has a link to resend the confirmation email. Is it possible to add this link to the admin to resend the email confirmation to the user? This way, when I'm looking at all users that are awaiting email confirmation, I could resend the email to the ones that have been inactive for a few days.

2. The system sends out the username/password BEFORE sending the email verification. I think this is confusing the users. Is there a way to send the user login details email AFTER they have confirmed their email address?

I have had this request before and it was not a simple fix because those email templates are pulled from the frontend template set and not the administration. So it would have to be some type of custom modification for that.

This wouldn't work because their actual password is stored encoded. So you can't decode it later to pull it out for another email.

E-mail has always been an issue and is becomming more of one as large ISP's batten down the hatches and try to defend us against spam.

Most spammers use server generated e-mail to flood the net so most ISP's are keenly aware and take measures to block script generated traffic.

With that in mind many ISP's have implemented white lists which often simply consist of e-mail addresses that are currently in their online address book.

Another problem many people have is that they have their site hosted on and use an e-mail address served by a server that has been black listed. A lot of spammers will sign up for a cheap host and use is to send spam via a script. The IP in use by the system is also the sam IP for all of the other web sites on the server and if the server gets blacklisted so do all the sites residing on it.

We even run into issues with our ticket system and people not getting emails from us and think that we never replied. It is frustrating at times and all it takes is one account on the box to get hacked or used to send spam and the whole ip can get blacklisted.

Super awesome! Once again you're my hero Eric. That temporary fix is good enough for me... it easily lets me resend the verification email to everyone who has not confirmed their address. Just what I needed!
