Hi,
Anyone know of a CGI script that could work? one with a upload ststus bar would be great. If someone built a module i would buy it straight away, fast way to make money if you find a opensource script.

I do not share the general enthusiasm regarding the multiple image upload.

I run a Classifieds script from 2004, and I will switch to 68C in september. My current script _like 68C_ only allow to upload one image per one image. Never one of my users asked about this feature.

Since 2008 april, I run a survey to ask them the new features they need for the new classifieds software. They asked for many features, nothing about the multiple image upload.

We have to differentiate the _real_ needs of users from webmasters fantasies.

In my case, I actually offer 5 pics upload. 70% of my users only upload 2 or 3 pics. A classified listing is not a picture gallery or a weblog.

Regarding upload issues, my customers requests are mainly on an other subject. Today, a low budget camera gives 5 Mpix pics. Many camera are 6 or 8 Mpix. Because of PHP limits, it is difficult to allow more than 2 Mo upload and this imposes to the users to resample their pix before upload, that's boring for many users. A feature about this problem will make my customers more happy than the multiple upload issue !

This is NOT a fast way to make money because most people are running on shared hosting. With that in mind they have no control over server settings and when you start running multiple image upload you run into script timeout erres etc.

Most people dont understand the intricacies involved in the process and when they have a few users complain that it doesnt work they request refunds/support etc etc and before you know it your spending all of your time explaining why their hosts constrictive settings are the problem and not your script. In the end, not worth the hassle.

Hi,
Ok but doesnt CGI have longer timeouts? I have no doubt that someone will run into problems but im also sure a lot of people will be happy with it. Maffo seemed to make it work the only problem is i only want the image upload part not the whole checkout. Multi Photo Upload

As I said, its just not about making it work, its about making it work with the majority of hosts. The fact that this discussion has gone on so long just further proves my point. If I have to sit and explaine to people over and over why its a potential issue then its a mod not worth perusing in my personal opinion. Maffo apparently thought it was worth adding to his checkout module and I have considered making just a mod for multiple file uploads but it would not be sold like other modules and it would only be implemented for clients who were leasing their own server.

As I have already stated, for me personally its not worth the support headaches otherwise.

Nothing to do with fantasies. Your customer base are apparently made up largely of computer neophytes who can't even resize an image, or consider it a major undertaking. Many of us deal with professionals with multiple listings, sometimes into the hundreds.

If you have a feature request, start another thread devoted to it.

Hi,
Does anyone have a script that will shrink the photo before it is uploaded? activex maybe? Although they might not be free i think it would be worth it.

My customers are not neophytes but they have choice between several ads providers, including eBay and other major french websites. Ebay and these others website does not require to resize pics before uploading pics. Here is the dilemna ... on eBay (and others) you can directely upload a 2.66 Mo (3008 x 2000 pixel) picture without any manipulation before, may be larger ones.
This is purely a problem of competition between classifieds websites
: easy or boring ...

You can also notice that eBay, that have some millions customers (pro and individuals) does not offer multiple image upload but image per image. It has not prevented him from becoming number one in the world

And they all resize their (hundreds) pics before uploading them ?

My customers are individuals and profesionals. I actually run around 400/500 ads per month and I hope to grow around 800/1000 after upgrading to 68C.
