Problem upgrading Listings

I'm having a problem when trying to upgrade a listing. Earlier today, I was testing the app trying to figure out how I'm getting all of the "not active", "pending payment", and ads going from active to inactive issues.
I have a free package along with a featured and multiple photo package.
Whenever I try to change the ad from Free to Featured or Bold, the system will change the status to inactive until payment is received. If I get to my Paypal screen and cancel the transaction, the status of the ad is now inactive, and I'm not sure on how to re-activate it.

My questions are...

1) How do I retain the original status of the ad until the user actually pays for any upgrades?
2) How do I now re-activate those ads which have been changed to inactive?
3) How do I identify those ads which changed from active to inactive via the process described above?

I am sorry but I really can't remember how v3.1.x was setup in this area. What I would recommend is upgrading to v4.0 it is a lot better for renewals.

You cant. When a user upgrades an ad, the info about that ad (ie its now featured) in the database changes and in turn its made unavailable until paid for. Tracking the status of a changed order and implementing those changes after payment is made would have involved extra database tables and a lot of extra logic and it simply isnt there.

If the ad was upgraded and an automated payment method was used the ad should be made automatically available unless you have your settings set to change the status of a modified ad. If either case to reactivate the ad if the payment method is check/other or they fail to go through with a payment you need to go into admin, find the listing and change its status to active.

log into your site admin and select search listings. The search form has a field where you can search for listings based on their status. This however cant differentiate between an upgrade that wasnt paid for and a regular ad that wasnt paid for.
