Thumbs up 68Classifieds is all that and a bag of chips!

In less than 24 hours I believe this script to be the best of it's kind on the market! I purchased the 68 Classifieds Developers version "just in case" I wanted to modify the code. I have to say it's money well spent!

The script has so much more control and options over the look and feel of your site than any other classifieds script I've reviewed and/or had the opportunity to test. I've spent the last two weeks of my research for a powerful script that is also reasonably priced and here it is!

I haven't even begun to harvest the unlimited capabilities this script has. I'm finding that the options and customizations are simply amazing for the administrator of this script. Thanks to the Staff and very friendly help of the forums. Hands down, 68 Classifieds is a winner!

I also want to add that in my search over the last couple of weeks, I have found 68 Classifieds to also be the most promoted classifieds scripts among search engines, Google advertising, and everywhere I've been searching. With all their promoting, I just don't know why I didn't buy sooner.

Cheers and much success to the Staff at 68 Classifieds!

I am currently looking for a classified ad script and tested quite a few now (trial version mostly).
I am impressed to read so many positive comments about 68c but they do not bring much help when trying to understand WHY 68c is so much better.
68c offers a feature page (68 Classifieds :: Features). But it is not very detailled (and exhaustive?) when comparing it to other script.

What would be nice to understand is in what extend such or such feature is better than competition.
In which extend is 68c superior to Esvon, e-classified, geoclassified, deltascript, etc.

I understand that the price is good. OK, what else?

For those who trying so many other script, what did finally make you choose 68c?

Bringing fact based examples would certainly help many out there looking for a good script.

This is jst my personal opinion, but with somany different classifieds scripts out there, it can be a full time job just keeping up with what the others are doing. With that in mind, I think its a bit unrealistic to expect a small company with a small user base to spend the time and effort trying to compare itself to the other products on the market.

68C offers an online demo and the users manual so that potential customers can play around with the software to see if it meets their needs. Its not necessarily the fastest way but to truely find out if something will work for you, you really n eed to just invest some time and play with it.

You right. It is not the task of a company.
Furthermore, if this would happen we could have some doubts about the objectivity.

My point is more when someone claims "this is the best script I ever seen".
Would be nice to know why it is the best.
Which feature makes him so happy with 68c rather than XYZ.

I'll answer this the best I can.

#1 - Well, let me start by saying first and foremost, tech support here is the first thing I've noticed. Any of my pre-sales questions via the forums or the main web page were answered in less than 24 hours, and one of my questions was even answered on a weekend. That's the first thing I look for, how fast (anxious) are they to respond to help seal a sale of their software/scripts. This helps to show me that their support also must be as comparable. (Believe this - I'm still slowly getting replies from other script companies to my questions that are over a week old. That's a #1 turn off to me. Some forum questions also took about 3 days average to gain a reply.)

#2 - I am not much into html, php, databases etc. I'm a dabbler and do better tearing apart code to make changes than I am at actually trying to write code. I'm more of a reverse engineer to scripting. Take what's there and through trial and error make it work.

I find all their folders and files in this script very organized in the way everything has it's place in the appropriate folders. It makes it easier for someone like myself to figure out where I have to go to find what I think is necessary for me to change what I need for my own tastes.

#3 - It also has forced (helped me greatly, I like to learn) me to learn about css and templates and I find that the way this script works, by editing these I'm not harming any other code as far as my database goes. It makes for an easy recovery by a simple mistake. That's a big plus, because a simple mistake and I could screw up the database code also when editing. (sql stuff)
SQL is way down on my list of having any knowledge.

#4 - This script is so versatile (if you have the developer edition, you can do more than just templates) that changes to code is painless and easy for even someone like myself. I admit, you must have a little knowledge or at least dabbled in html or php to make some cool changes. But the help and support from the other customer is so awesome here, anything is possible. I honestly and wholeheartedly mean that.

#5 - This script compared to many in the $99 to $200 range meets most if not all of my needs for a classifieds ads script that others may have lacked. I'm not dissing any other scripts out there, but this one does what most of them do, plus just a little bit more. (disclaimer - I haven't tried or researched the companies that had scripts in the over $200 range. I have a budget to work on.)

I hope this helps. I've tried to answer as in order of importance to myself.

Randy

Thanks Randy for having taken the time to write these details.
This is helpful to make up ones mind.

I am looking for a classified script and so far could see quite a few strong points on 68c side:
- Helpful and enthusiastic community. Very important for long term projects as a webmaster always need to do a few changes or tweaks on the long haul.
- Proven code. It does not look like a 2 years try which will disappear tomorrow.
- Steady development. If one starts with 68c it will see new stuff tomorrow and in one year too.
- Has all the usual features a classified script can have, which can be extended with modules (location, news, google map, newsletter, store, and many more)
- Developer version allows you to have the control of your project. You can do your site the way you want. But also, if 68c company would disappear one day (what I do not wish) you will still be able to run your site.
- Script seems to be OK on security side.

Some features I do not know if they exist:
- affiliate
- autonotify
- compare
But as said, with developer version one can add these things.

Weakness:
- Multilingual feature is not really multilingual.
- Store feature does not seem to be a real store but rather a listing presentation.

Open points:
- Scalability. How many ads can be run by this script without strong slowdowns. 10 000, 100 000, 1 000 000?
- Speed of script. What about caching and optimization?

Its not truely multilingual in the sense the visitor can chose a langauge easily but it is in the sense that the admin can change it.

The store feature is misnamed if anything. I think adding store functionality to the script opens up a whole new can of worms which has been covered here a few times. If your looking for a store there are better solutions out there.

Scalability with most software is solely a function of the hardware you run it on. Can you realistically expect to host half a million ads on shared hosting and not have a performance hit? Not likely.

Speed of the script is also largely dependent on your hardware. Far too many people go out and byt $5 a month shared hosting and complain about speed. Smarty templates do some caching of their own but there isnt any database cacheing that I am aware of.
