Default Icon next to webaddress in browser

I have another silly question - sorry. I've noticed some websites end up with a little symbol next to their URL in the browser (such as Craig's List has a purple peace symbol next to theirs or some bank accounts have 1 as well). How do they do that? Can we have one?

Most of the times, all you need to do is pick a favicon and upload it to the main directory of your 68 folder. Take a look there and try some of the icons Free Favicon - Free object favicons to download. .

This is actually quite simple. It is a standard HTML declaration that must be located in the Head of the web page. In this case, that would be in head of your layout.tpl file between <head> and </head>. If you put your favicon in your images folder in the root of your classifieds then the code would look like this:
HTML Code:
<link rel="icon" type="image/gif" href="images/favicon.gif" />
Bear in mind that if you favicon is NOT a ".gif" then you need to change it to favicon.jpg, or favicon.png, etc.

I can't get my favicon to work. I have placed it in the correct images folder, and have cleared my cookies/browser history.

here is my code placed in the layout.tpl:

<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd">
<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" xml:lang="en" lang="en">
<head>
<link rel="icon" type="image/gif" href="images/fav3.ico" />

anyone see the problem?
