Default Templatecodes intallation not working

I have a fresh installation of 68Classifieds 4.1.9. No 3rd party modules except Templatecodes.
I have uploaded the modules and templates for Templatecodes into the correct directories.
Running php5.
Debug is inactive.
As soon as I try to activate templatecodes from settings/modules, I get a blank screen and then the site no longer works. No code shows up when viewing source code. Any thoughts as to what I might be doing wrong?

Sounds like you may have some file corruption in either the fresh install or the template codes files. Have you tried activating other modules besides the TemplateCodes module to see if the issue is with the module script?

We know that the TemplateCodes stuff works as there are many customers that have it installed and use it.

Oh I have no doubt it works and I'm sure it's something I've overlooked.
I can activate the debug & statistics modules with no problem. I've re-unzipped and re-uploaded the templatecodes files as well.

The instructions are straightforward enough so perhaps it is file corruption.

1. Upload modules and templates
2. activate templatecodes module only in the admin control panel.
3. set a template in your main template settings
4. go back to the modules admin and go to the link called admin beside the template switcher. Select the templates you want (do not select the default though).

When I go to the admin / modules to select the templatecodes module, THAT is where it all goes horribly wrong. As soon as I activate the templatecodes module, I get a blank screen and nothing works-not admin, not the front end. I have to reinstall the database (thank goodness for backups) in order to get it working again. I've deleted all the templatecode files from the server and re-uploaded them fresh from the zip file.

You don't need to reinstall the database. You just clear the modules. from the FTP space after pressing deactivate for the templatecodes module and delete (resets the database). Anyway I suspect you are not running PHP5 even though you say you are. The way to test this is to make a file call test.php in your top directory. Then put contents into it like this

<?php
phpinfo();
?>

Then run this in your browser -

http://www.mydomain.com/test.php

If not then please contact me on support.

You are running php5 it seems afgter all so it is something else in your setup - will get to the bottom it and post here for others.

Well - update - it appears your PHP 5 installation is not compiled properly because it is missing a standard library. You need to ask your hosting provider to fix their issue or move hosting provider.
