Default Banner ad - link to other web site wanted!

Hello everybody,

I just realise that all my futur banners displayed with the following code (in browse.tpl)

{if $categoryname <> ''}
<p><img src="administration/images/{$language}_{$promo}" /></p>
{/if}

will not have any link to their owner respective web site!!..

Do I have to use smarty logic like maybe:

{if categoryname = name of the category}

<p><a href=path to the owner web site><img src="administration/images/{$language}_{$promo}" /></a></p>

{elseif $categoryname <> ''}
<p><img src="administration/images/{$language}_{$promo}" /></p>
{/if}

or is there another way to do it....or is there no way at all!!

Thank you for your help

You could do it like that.

I wouldn't advise keeping your ad images in your administration directory though. I think that's just asking for trouble.

One that comes to mind is its easy for anyone viewing the front end of your site to right click an image to get its full path and then readily see the folder structure including the admin folder. There simply is no need for images to be there. The admin structure is no closely gaurded secret but at the same time we shouldnt put up banner ads advertising it either. Its just bad practice.

thank you Larry for your answer.

So, do you mean that I should not use the $promo to include any image, my images or images banner to link to other web sites and use this variable just to include text?

NO, not at all. Using the $promo variable has absolutely nothing to do with WHERE you keep your advertising images stored. Most people either create a new directory in the root like "ads" or in their template folder.
