Default Can not open connection

This question may be related to a resolved thread: Database Error: Could not connect to server.

What version of 68 Classifieds are you running? I am using an older version of 68 classifieds V3.1.5b however I intend to update once installed.

What template are you using? No templates yet

Please describe in detail the issue you are having:

When going through the intstallation process, I reach a window that says:

Server Settings:

PHP Version 4.4.4 Installed
PHP fsockopen support Function fsockopen installed
Opening Connection Can not open connection

CHMOD Settings:

catimages Ok
license Ok
photos Ok
templates_c Ok
thumbs Ok
uploads Ok
Connections/classifieds.php Ok

It than says, to fix the errors and refresh.

I have gone back through Filezila and modified all the permissions to 777 as indicated in the instructions. I have even gone through and modified any subfolders and all the files to 777.

Question is, How to fix this error that prevents it opening the connection?

Why would you bother to install this old script and then upgrade which may be more troublesome? Why not just upload a 4.10 version.

seems like you have entered the wrong database username and password
I also agree with david i would be making a new database for the fresh install

Seems like you are not being very logical or efficient. Why would you want to go through hassle to solve an issue with a very old version of the script then try to upgrade which may also present challenges in itself.

Seems like common sense to just put the latest script on your FTP space first and have the correct database in place. Unless you have some other motive which none of us are aware of.
In addition you have php4 which is not even supported by PHP themselves as they have been on version 5 for quite a long time now.
