What version of 68 Classifieds are you running?
Example: V 4.1.10 Developer

TC-SIGMA BLACK MOD

Well, I've switched hosts from BH to host gator. I've exported/imported my database through myphp admin. The sql ran fine and I can see the tables but the db is empty.

1. I've backed up my db from bh. but if I try to restore it creates a new db with the old db name. I need to import the data into the new database and tbh I'm not that familiar with the process. I've been able to search the forums to get me this far but how you you get the data there.

2. The home directory can I just restore that or do I need to unzip the gz and then ftp up the contents?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Without actually knowing exactly HOW you did the backup/export of your database, leaves some of this wide open as to how you would precede. Although you mentioned that you used phpmyadmin you need to understand that there's many different versions of it and many different options you can select for an export.

From the sounds of what has happened in your trials, it must have the complete DB creation at the top of the file written into it.

Don't know if you still have access to the original DB on BH. If you do, then the most efficient manner would be to do another export and be more critical of what options that you are choosing for the export. I am by no means an expert at this, but have certainly done my share of exporting/importing via phpmyadmin.

I would suggest:
In the Export section (on the left):
Ensure all the tables are selected (should be by default)
Do select SQL

In the options on the right:
Comments - leave it checked (This will help you if you need to open the file to look)

Structure (should be checked by default and it MUST be checked)
Add DROP TABLE .... Check this (This may have been why you aren't getting any new info in your import)
Add AUTO_INCREMENT value Check this
Enclose table and field names with backquotes Check this

Data (should be checked by default, Must be checked!)
Complete inserts Check this
Export type INSERT (should be this way by default.)

Of course check "Save as file" and write in a name for your saved file.

Once you have successfully imported your data. Check your main settings in the admin, especially the URL and the URLS (It's caught me more times than I'd like to admit for failure for the site to run properly).
