Default Some modifications questions..

I am doing some investigating for friends who want me to help them with a site they want to start. What I need to know is how difficult would it be to make the site sort users into locations or organizations (like facebook, for example), and have it only accept email addresses from that organization to register for that location, and then allow people to search through listings in their organization. Also, how difficult would it be to charge a percentage of the listing price up front instead of a flat fee? I looked in the admin demo, but that option was readily apparent. I do have a fair bit of knowledge of modifying php and mysql stuff, but am no where near 'leet enough to rewrite anything if need be. Are these things very feasible to do with this application?

There would probably need to be a LOT of customizing to get the script to the point you're describing.

The classifieds system (like all of them) are designed to bring sellers and buyers together. As a result, it's sort of self-defeating to limit what users can join or where their memberships are 'placed' (either by company or location).

I don't know how active you expect the site to be or how many organizations you expect to participate but...

You might be able to install the script once for every organization you want to provide access to. You would need to build some type of membership system so that the registered user could be directed to the correct installation location for his/her account.

There's really no way to charge a percentage of the listing price because of the way listing packages are defined. As I recall, one 68 Classifieds user created a variety of packages and, during checkout, forced the user to choose a package based on the listing price.

Hope this helps-

These mods are possible with time and work.

I dont like the thought of charging a percentage, what if the item is really low priced or really high priced? You would probably want different rates, once again upsetting the apple cart.

Also if you get this working and have problems in the future, you might have problems with support for this.
